May 2013 – August 2015
Paul, repping his and co-author Greg Starrett’s new horror-humor novella, shares the bill with David Luhrssen, author of the biography “Mamoulian: Life on Stage and Screen.”
Singer Maya Kuper and Paul present the fifth of a dozen 12th-anniversary musical/dramatic retrospective performances of Paul’s acclaimed 2002 novel. Proceeds from (discounted) book sales benefit RAINN.
Maya Kuper and Paul will be joined by local guest artists Matt Connolly (lead guitar) & Jeff “Wag” Wagner (drums). This special show follows Paul’s & Maya’s brunch at Tori Amos’ table earlier in the day as a continuation of the festivities celebrating the 20th anniversary of RAINN, co-founded by RAINN President Scott Berkowitz and Tori.
This event is free with all merchandise proceeds benefiting RAINN (the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network).
The performance will end at 8:45 but the signing and socializing will continue till 10 pm.
As part of the Grand Ed-Ventures series, Paul and performance-partner Maya Kuper “try out” their big Greenhouse Theater show (see Aug. 18 listing) tonight, not with a full band but as an acoustic duo.
After his 10-month, surgery-laden “hospital-&-then-home-healing hiatus,” Paul—joined by performance-partner Maya Kuper and their Dayna Clay Band (Paul, Maya, Mike Holden & Justin Marsh)—finally returns to the Big Stage, presenting a full-on, two-act, 100-minute (with Intermission) live version (adapted by him & Maya) of his acclaimed 2002 novel as part of the Greenhouse’s popular Trellis Series. A dozen scenes by Paul alternate with a dozen original songs by Paul & Maya to tell the story of rocker Dayna Clay’s climb out of darkness and into discovery. An earlier stage version earned a Chicago Reader Critic’s Choice. Local theater- and indie-film-company folks will be there to check out the material, so, please: attend, and be loudly enthusiastic!
